Johnny has been around gospel music all of his life. His grandfather Newt Kelly has written songs for some of gospel music's best known groups such as The Hoppers, The Inspirations, and Naomi and the Segos just to name a few.
In 1992, Johnny and two of his best friends started a group called Safe Harbor. This group gained national attention and acclaim from southern gospel fans across the country but God had other plans. In August of 2007 God led Johnny and the other members of the group to retire and pursue other opportunities.
Johnny never thought that the Lord would lead him to sing with his life long friend, Toby Fricks and Providence Quartet. Johnny states, “I am so excited to see what the Lord has in store for us and the ministry of PQ." Johnny and his wife Betty and daughter Chloe reside in Pelzer, S.C. Johnny could not do this without the support of his family. Sharing the hope, healing and salvation of Jesus Christ is all that matters.
