December
The holidays are finally here and we have enjoyed some great food, fun and fellowship. There is more to come with Christmas right around the corner. While the birth of Jesus is one of the most important holidays of the entire year, let’s not leave him there. All too often we concentrate on Christ’s birth and never let him grow in our hearts. It was impossible for Mary and Joseph to know upon His birth what Jesus was to endure throughout life for all of mankind. Thank God for His mercy and grace toward us that Jesus is still working daily interceding at the Father’s right hand. Moreover, he arose from the grave victorious as proof we too can live with Him in heaven someday!
On a more somber note, some of you may have heard that I planned to leave Providence Quartet as tenor. Now I think I understand a little how Abraham felt when God asked him to sacrifice his son, Isaac, to prove his obedience. For literally months I prayed seeking God’s will as I felt a need to do something more – something different. Faye and I talked and prayed and it seemed as if it was time to move on, although I didn’t have clear direction. First I told the guys and later began to share the news with close friends while continuing to pray for guidance. Folks this was difficult! We have been together almost 6 years and these guys are like family to me. But this is not the end of the story.
Doesn’t God always have the strangest and most unique ways of speaking to His children? Last Friday, I received my word on what to do next. And it didn’t just come from a single source, but from several folks that I have grown to love and respect deeply. Without this turning into a novel, Providence isn’t getting a new tenor, just a REnewed one – me!
When we first started Providence, I thought that it would be easier than the groups I had sung with before. But during my time with PQ, I have seen more people saved, grown more, learned more, met more people and traveled more than any other group I have been with before. I am thankful to have had the opportunity to help start Providence and I look forward to seeing God continue to work in this group. Please keep us in your prayers!
Merry Christmas Everybody!

November News
It's here....It's here!!!!
The new project is here!!! I went to Asheville last night and picked up the very first copies of "Painting Pictures." I had been excited all day long; so when Linda finally called me and said that it was ready, I waved good-bye to Robbie who was way out in the field and he knew that I was on my way. And....I was the first one other than our record company to hear the final cuts. The guys had not even heard it yet. You would have thought that I was a little girl getting her first doll or something..lol
And let me tell you....I "snotted" (as Robbie calls it) all the way down that mountain back to Powdersville. I called Toby and just cried. And he just laughed....not his making fun of me laugh... but his brotherly..."so, it's that good, huh?" laugh. Priceless.
Ya'll...this project is awesome! I even called Robbie today on my way back from Charlotte and had to apologize for my "you're my baritone, not a tenor" remarks. He just laughed! He will have to explain that one to you. I could feel his smile all the way from Wilmington, NC all the way to Charlotte. I can not wait until you hear "Jesus Had Mercy." The Holy Spirit truly fell in that studio!!
Rick...."Just A Step From Calvary." What can I say? That boy can sing some bass. Toby...."My Ship Can't Go Down." By far, my favorite baritone. Sorry Robbie! Johnny..."When Jesus Speaks Life." What can you say about that lead singer?
Do I sound proud of this bunch or what? I think that I have already picked my favorites. I will say this too. Tim Small...the man that wrote, "I'm the One." Well he outdid himself when he penned, "Hell Won't Give An Altar Call." The part that our friend Shawn Porter of the Porter Family portrayed as the preacher in this song will make the hair on the back of your neck stand up. My prayer is that people everywhere that Providence Quartet sings to will come to know the Lord. I know that this song will make you take a second look at your relationship with the Lord.
We dedicated "Painting Pictures" to Johnny's grandfather Newt Kelly (who has gone on to be with the Lord). There are some great songs that he wrote on this CD.
Well, I have ranted enough about this. I know that you probably get the picture by now. I am still in the process of putting the information on our store page and am trying to get some samples on the website. Please be patient with me.
I want to say that PQ and all of our families are wishing each of you a blessed and a Happy Thanksgiving. We all have so much to be thankful for this year. I know that some of you are going through some difficult times right now with the economy the way that it is. Some of you are facing the holidays this year missing loved ones around the table and many of you have had or are now coping with illnesses that only God can touch. We often times don't understand why things happen especially when we try so hard to do the right things..and we may not ever know this side of Heaven. It may be to help others that will face similar situations and it may happen to give us a testimony. Please remember that He is faithful and He loves you!!
Lamentations 3:22-23
"It is of the LORD's mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not. They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness."
Please continue to keep all of us in your prayers. We love you!
Under Grace,
Faye, Providence Quartet

August News
I asked Robbie to write the newsletter this month.
Wow! It’s hard to believe that summer is almost gone. Of course, that means it’s time for homecoming and lot’s of good cooking. It is nearly time for the annual National Quartet Convention too. PQ will be there again this year in booths 371 and 373. We are scheduled to sing Monday afternoon on the Artist Spotlight Showcase. We would love to see you there!
It seems we have been exceptionally busy lately doing a lot of dates out of state, and we have made a lot of new friends and seen God move in many ways. We thank Him for all He continues to do. We continue to see souls saved and lives changed. That’s why we sing!
In case you haven’t heard already, our illustrious bass singer is sporting a new fashion accessory – a soft cast on his left arm. Rick is a dry-wall contractor and uses stilts (no he isn’t in the circus, but that’s another story) to texture ceilings. He fell while on his stilts and landed on a brick fireplace. Rick has only fallen 3 times in his last 31 years, but this time he managed to fracture his wrist. He underwent surgery August 7th and missed our concert in Walhalla. Yes, we did miss him too! The next day he was back with us – what a trooper! Please keep Rick in your prayers as he heals.
We are back in the studio again this month working on our next CD project. We are half done with 5 songs left to go. We are truly excited about each song and think you will be blessed. As soon as the new CD is ready, we will let you know!
I think we have straightened out most of our generator and bus problems, but we have learned to look at these things in a whole new light lately. I’m not sure who said it, but during these trials, “We are making memories!”
‘Til next month, may God bless you!

July
Hey ya'll!
I hope that this newsletter finds each of you well. The guys and all of our families have enjoyed a much needed vacation and they are ready to get back on the road. Me, Susannah, Leilani and Betty are ready for them to get back too! =)
I have a few things to tell you this month. First of all, "Sea Saw" just charted at Number 59 in the nation. It moved up eight spots from last month. As always we want to thank all of you that are calling the radio stations and requesting it. We especially want to thank our Lord because He is so worthy of our praise. He makes what we do possible!!
Please don't forget about WGOG's 50th Anniversary Singing at the Walhalla Civic Auditorium on Saturday, August 8. This will be a ticketed concert. Please go to our website and check out the information. We will be having the Roy Knight Singers, The Porter Family and Zion Quartet with us.
Again, thank you for the prayers. We have sure needed them! Our bus has had to have some work on it and it has been very costly. We sure would appreciate the extra prayers. God has always been faithful to meet our needs and I know that He will not let us down.
Lastly, the guys are in the studio doing vocals for the next project. Please pray that God will anoint it and them.
We love each of you so much and as always, thank you for your love and support to all of us!
Under Grace,
Faye

June
As I sit here writing this, Robbie is on his way back from a haircut, I have just finished packing, and then the three of us (Kat, Robbie and I) are heading up to a cabin in Asheville for the weekend of much needed rest. A short mini-vacation of sorts.... The guys are off this weekend for our "family-time."
I had planned on writing this early on in the week but got side tracked. Go figure!
I wanted to tell you that we received another blessing this month! "Sea Saw" is charting on the national charts (Singing News) at Number 67. My, how the Lord continues to bless us! I am still getting emails and phone calls of how "I'm the One" is still playing and how that song continues to touch lives. Thank you, Tim Small for allowing the Lord to use you as you penned such an anointed song!!
Please, please continue to pray for Providence Quartet and all of our families! We count it an honor to have you, our friends, continually lifting us up. Thank you too, that you send me emails and tell me that you are praying for us.
Happy Father's Day to all of you dads out there! I sure miss my dad but I am sure that he is keeping my daughter Misti entertained in Heaven. He had the greatest attitude and the funniest sense of humor!!
One more thing....Congratulations Carter for making the All Star Team!!
Love and blessings to you all!

May News
I felt that this was worth repeating.
Happy May everyone!
I hope that this newsletter finds each of you enjoying life. I have been struggling for the last couple of days trying to decide what I needed to write for this month and the Lord impressed upon my heart to say something about mothers. Mother's Day is May 10th and like so many of you I will be enjoying the doting upon that I get twice a year. My birthday (which gets crazy "funny"...you have to ask me sometime) and of course Mother's Day.
In the book of Proverbs, Chapter 31, the scripture begins in verse 10 that says "Who can find a virtuous woman, for her price is far above rubies?" Like some of you, my mom has been in Heaven for a long time. I look back and remember sometimes my childhood and growing up and can now laugh because she didn't seem so virtuous and precious then. Especially when she was coming after me with a hickory switch. She definitely did not "spare the rod." I know that many of you can relate to this. There is one thing that I can say though. She laid a foundation for me. She always had us in church every time the door opened. For that I am grateful.
Proverbs 31:26-30
"Strength and honor are her clothing; and she shall rejoice in time to come. She looketh well to the ways of her household, and eateth not the bread of idleness. Her children arise up, and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praiseth her. Many daughters have done virtuously, but thou excellest them all. Favour is deceitful, and beauty is vain: but a woman who feareth the Lord, she shall be praised."
I believe that I can state on behalf of all of the PQ wives and mothers that each of us want to be exactly what these verses state. Folks can't always see "behind the scenes" of PQ family lives, that there are loving, supporting and especially praying wives and moms who are Godly women that love the Lord and this ministry. This includes Toby's mom, Mrs. Fricks and Susannah's mom, Mrs. Buckner. Prayer warriors!
My prayer is that each of us and each one of you will be the best Godly mom that we can be. Not perfect by any means; none of us can be...but striving every day. I also know that some of you are facing this Mother's Day without your mom or even the loss of a child. You especially, are in our thoughts and prayers.
If your mom is still living, call her or go see her. If she isn't, adopt a special lady in your church. There are people out there that are hurting and may need that "something special" that each of us can give. The love of Christ.
Thank you again for your love and prayers and for always supporting Providence Quartet and our families.
Under Grace,
Faye, Susannah, Leilani and Betty

April 2009
What to write....
What can be said from this human existence (me) that can even begin to relay my thoughts about someone...a King, a Savior, a Lord...Jesus... that would love me enough to come and die a cruel and shameful death on a cross that He didn't deserve. I want so desperately to be able to wrap my brain around this but I can't. I just have to trust my heart and accept the Grace that He gave me.
Robbie and I have been reading and doing our devotion each night from a book that Kat gave us this past Christmas. “Voices of the Faithful.” It happened to be my turn to read this particular passage. I would like to share it with you. It touched me in a way that I haven't been able to get it out of my mind. The words penetrated my heart so; that I just cried.
My hope and prayer for each of you this Easter season is that you know that your name is Written on the Palm of His Hands!
Under Grace,
Faye, Providence Quartet
"Written on His Hands"
Isaiah 49:15-16 (NASB)
“Can a woman forget her nursing child, and have no compassion on the son of her womb? Even these may forget but I will not forget you. Behold I have inscribed you on the palms of “My hands.”
It’s about 3 a.m. The death wails from a neighbor’s house wake me. Who has died? Is it a baby? Someone we know? About once a week this happens in our village. But so far, it hasn’t lost its effect on us.
I begin to pray for the family, as they are inconsolable and without hope. Then I move on to pray for the village and the entire people group, dozing and waking again until morning. I rise with a heaviness of spirit. Later in the day, I sit with this family for a while. They are always a bit surprised to see me, even more surprised that I will eat the roasted grain, drink the little cups of strong coffee and sit with them on the floor.
These people have become the object of my intercession. My husband and I strategize and agonize over how to get involved in their lives in ways that yield deep relationships. We celebrate little triumphs like spiritual conversations with a friend that lead to talking about Jesus. But we find our greatest hope comes from Scripture. God has said that Jesus’ blood has purchased men “from every tribe and language and people and nation.” {Rev. 5:9) Some of the people whom we’ve grown to love and others we don’t even know will join in worshipping Jesus in eternity. They will come to Him. He knows who they are.
Their names are written in the palms of His hands.
A God who knows us is the only One to love and serve.

January 2009
“I waited patiently for the Lord; and he inclined unto me, and heard my cry. He brought me up also out of an horrible pit, out of the miry clay, and set my feet upon a rock. And established my goings. And he hath put a new song in my mouth, even praise unto our God; many shall see it, and fear, and shall trust in the Lord.” Psalm 40:2-3
At some point in life, we all will find ourselves in some kind of pit; the darkness settling around us is like a paralyzing blanket of hopelessness. That deep, dark pit may have many names, but easily becomes a prison from which escape seems impossible. The journey out is a process of steps uniquely planned by our Father.
In this world, there are few certainties. God is one. His promises are true and we can wholly trust Him to keep His Word, to do exactly what He promises to do. God promises to free us, direct us, restore us, and give us joy. That is quite an impressive "to do list" when you are sitting at the bottom of an ugly pit, with the shattered pieces of your life scattered around you. But God's ways are not our ways.
In Romans 11:33, Paul writes, “O the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable are his judgments, and his way past finding us.”
God is drawn to brokenness. What an amazing truth, that He turns first to the broken.
Psalm 40:1 says, "He inclined to me.” That means He turned to me. It does not say that David turned to God. I don't think that David could turn to God! Knowing the desire of David's heart and understanding his weakness, God heard his cry and turned to David just like God will hear our cry and turn to us.
During my darkest hours, I questioned God constantly. My heart and soul were filled with fear and confusion instead of faith and trust. But, He never turned away from me. He knew every tear that I cried. Out of those tears and brokenness has come the most effective and powerful chapter of my life! I am convinced that the more we are broken, the more we are used. You can count on God. You can credit His Grace to your account!
Mercy is when we don't get what we deserve.
Justice is when we get what we do deserve.
Grace is when we get what we do not deserve.
We are trophies of God's grace and we can count on Him.
Psalm 40:1 - "I waited patiently for the Lord."
“Patiently" literally means "without tiring" or "with perseverance". Be patient. Don't give up. No one gets depressed overnight and no one conquers depression overnight. It is a marathon, not a fifty-yard dash! On my journey, it has taken me years to climb out - this far ...I am still climbing!
We must be patient. We must be willing to persevere. Don't give up! Just give in and allow God to take control. He will turn that pit into an altar on which your broken spirit can be laid as a sweet sacrifice of praise.
Philippians 1:6 - "Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ.” God is at work! The very fact that you are reading this, is proof that the Father has ordered your steps. That may be because you are in a pit and you need help or maybe because someone you love is in that pit and you need to help him or her. God wants you to experience restoration and then to be a vessel of restoration for others.
"Don't stop! Keep on! Don't quit!"
Isaiah 61:3 – “To appoint unto them that mourn in Zion, to give unto them beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; that they might be called trees of righteousness, the planting of the LORD, that he might be glorified.”
Right now, where you are, please understand that He is standing beside you, with His arms wrapped around you. Listen as He speaks.
I know that your soul may be filled with chaos and hurt, but HE is composing the "rest" of your song. One day very soon, it will be a song of beauty.
***There are many folks that have called us and emailed us with prayer requests. There are so many people that are hurting…. Job losses, sickness, problems with spouses or children, death of parents and the death of children…. The loss of a child and the prayers for these parents are near and dear to my heart. It is only through God’s Grace and Mercy that I know how to pray for them.
I can think of friends right now that need a special touch from above. We are asking that each of you when you pray to please help us pray for these requests.
Thank you for your love and prayers for us and for our families!
Under Grace,
Faye and all of Providence Quartet
